Now THAT is amazing! I'm a huge Sea Turtle lover and collector and this is so unual. A big congrats on having it at the MIA.

Douglas Limon replied:

Thank you Patti! I love Turtles too. My youngest son's Ojibwe name is Mikinak which means Turtle.

Very nice to see your handsome Ojibwe artwork here on FAA! Love the collection of turtle designs! I appreciate Native American art as I used to reside in Lac du Flambeau.

Artist's Description

The Turtle radiates the natural beauty of the Abalone Shell. The colors of the glass beads compliment and help radiate the iridescent colors of the shell. The beads are stitched directly on art paper with nylon thread. The original is in a black wood frame with a white mat (12.25"w x 15.25"h x 1.5"d). Ready to hang.

About Douglas Limon

Douglas Limon

I am an enrolled member of "the" Oneida Nation and a descendent of the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe. My mother taught me how to bead on a loom at the age of five. She taught me to include an intentional flaw in my beadwork to symbolize that we are all human beings and we all make mistakes. All my work includes an intentional flaw. I eventually taught myself the appliqué style of beading. I take thousands of tiny glass beads and sew them onto a variety of materials to make a statement not only as art but to preserve the history and culture of my ancestors. I make traditional and contemporary Native American beadwork. My beadwork is a story of beliefs, of art, of commerce. You can enjoy the beadwork as art but behind the art is a story....
